I have done some more experimenting with how I can encode the video and keep the quality as best I can. So this link leads to the same video with some additional edits and a different method of encoding the video.

The quality is not as good as the first video and the ability to go full screen goes away with this method of encoding the video. However its three times smaller than the first attempt. So please check out the two videos (dont forget to let them finish loading before playing them) and leave comments in the comments section on what you think. Comments dont require you to even register.

  1. Click here for High Quality big download video preview.
  2. Click here for Medium Quality smaller download video preview.

I will fix the interface up so that you dont get the option to play the video before its downloaded.

Cheers
Shane

I love the idea of videos about UO and think the idea has a lot of potential. I think encoding the videos so the user can choose for the large download and higher quality than making it one size fits all.

This way if people have the time and bandwidth they can chose.

I normally find that most people these days like slightly higher quality, rather than quicker downloads, as most have 256k or better internet. You will get the odd 56ker will be shafted but its better to go for what most people like/have.

My advice is encode the recording at the best quality you can, then you can edit it, and re-encode and compress it for uploading at as high or low quality as you like. If you have the original footage in the best quality then you can make it as big or small download as you like by just re-compressing it.

If you find a lot of people are finding the files are two big then maybe upload a high quality and a low quality for each video, this is how many streaming sites get around this very issue, offer different bit rates to suit the user's desires/needs.

Very nice work. Streaming the vids seems to work fine for me. Can you tell me what video recording software you are using, please?
